Have you heard the good news about Jesus? Have you read about his life and death? Imagine that you cannot hear and that reading is difficult for you, because you do not know most of the words, and Polish grammar with its variations and endings is an impenetrable thicket. In addition, the Bible is written in a language full of anachronisms, comparisons and repetitions. It is very difficult for a deaf person to understand them, because he or she reads them literally.<\/p>\n

In Romans chapter 10, St. Paul wrote:<\/p>\n

13<\/strong> Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. 14<\/strong> How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them?<\/em><\/p>\n

This challenge of reaching the deaf with the good news, getting to know the Bible became an inspiration to create the “Good Sign”. We started translating the Holy Bible into Polish Sign Language (PJM). We have been meeting for several years after Sunday services. At these meetings, after many discussions, a simplified text is created that can be presented in the form of PJM signs. The translation group includes sign language interpreters, church elders as well as missionaries and teachers. The prepared “text” is consulted with the deaf community regarding the understanding and adequacy of the signs used. The next step is to record a video. In this way, an accessible and understandable Bible in their “native” language will be created.
\nSo far, we have managed to prepare the Gospel of St. Luke. We are currently working on the Acts of the Apostles. We will start video recording soon.
\nIf we could get enough support, we could hire some people for this work on a “full-time” basis. This would significantly speed up the work and enable the involvement of these people in the work of the deaf. You can support us.<\/p>\n
